Pelican

Yesterday morning I was looking out the back window while eating breakfast, and I saw this solitary pelican swimming toward our dock. By the time I got my new handy dandy camera, he had swam past the dock and turned around to leave. I stepped out on the sun porch carefully and snapped two photos of him (telephoto). It turned out well enough that I want to share it. There were only two shots, but some how I transferred one of them twice. I am not adept enough at blogging yet that I wanted to try messing with deleting one of the redundant photos, so you are getting more than you paid for.
It is less than one day and we will be leaving for what Clarine calls our "church history tour." It was really a time share promotion from Branson, Missouri that started this whole thing. We got three nights lodging for four for $99. The catch is that we have to listen to an hour and one half time share presentation. Two days ago they called me and told me that if we don't make it to use our rooms they will charge me an extra $50. I asked them what the logic was in that. It costs me $50 more if I don't use the room at all. The response was sort of a nervous, meaningless reply. We added all of the extra church site locations as we planned the trip to Branson. Likely there will be further posts to this blog regarding this trip. gwh

Clarine's first blog

This is my first time at the blog program. I hope you can pull it up ok. We are leaving for a Church History trip with Paul and diane Monday am. We will be back on the 7th. Then 4 days later we are going up to Hoop Lake in the Uinintahs for 3 days. (We have been warned there are bears there. (Scarey?)
Ashley and Garrett had their baby boy this am (June 22). He weighs 8 # 1/2 oz. She is doing ok. It was a harder birth than her first. Cherrelle was with her the whole time. (as were a lot of other family members).
I am feeling much better from my pneumonia. Will do our temple shift tomorrow. Church Sunday, and trip Monday. We will take pictures and post them on our blog.
Diane Young had a historectomy Tuesday. She is home and doing ok.
Heather (Rocky) will be the next birth.
Ben Davies gets married tomorrow. Only parents and grandparents are invited.
Will blog when I get home from our trips, (if the bears don't eat us)
We will have our lap top on our trip and if we can make it work will send some pictures, etc.

After Thoughts

My first two blogs certainly weren't smooth procedures. Perhpas this one will go better.
Callie, Dan, Kim and Elliot stopped by for a visit on Wednesday. Kim gave me some pointers on blogging. When she had finished , went to Leatherby's Family Creamery. We waited so long that Clarine needed to go Visiting Teaching. So she didn't go to lunch with us. We each ordered the sandwich of our choice and then one big community bannana split. We all dove into it with our individual spoons. When we finished there was just a little of the syrups in the dish holding the boat. We had a good visit. Some of the rest of you will have to stop by if you want to try Leatherby's fare.

I have images I wish to show. I am having trouble transfering images to the place where I want them. The flowers are the subject of this blog. I am really experimenting with my new digital camera which I have purchased to provide images for the blogs. The camera works fine. I have even downloaded some images into the computer which I am planning to show you with this blog. My next challenge is to bring the photos from the folder where I downloaded them to this post. I tried to control placement of the images and the computer and software wanted to operate independently. So I will post this blog and then my grandaughter Kim can give me tutoring on placement after she sees the blog.

Number One Post

This may become part of my first post to the blog site for me and Clarine. As I better figure out what I am doing, I hope the post gets to be more interesting. As of the current date, 19 June 2007 we both plan to use the same site . I don't think it will be difficult to tell which of us is writing. As a trial run I will list the ten places where I eat out in descending order of preference. Yesterday it may have been different than today, and it was certainly different when I was a man about town in my working years. Here goes:
10. Chuckarama - a good variety of food and one chooses the amount as well.
9. Golden Corrall - same as above except that after 4:00 PM one can always get an excellent piece of sirloin steak seasoned and cooked just right.
8. Panda Express - good and fast. Their dishes are a good variety and quality - Oriental genre.
7. Jim's Family Restuarant - plenty of well prepared food. They do Greek as well as American. 6. Denny's - on the road Clarine and I use Denny's a lot. It is reliable, clean and good. We can pretty well count on a constant, consistent result.
5. Applebee's - a good middle of the road in this classification of ten.
4. Salt Lake Temple Cafeteria - again, I can pick and choose. I know it is clean and everything is handled with care.
3. Jordan River Temple Cafeteria - same as number four above.
2. Red Lobster - I like sea food, and they prepare it right and treat you the same way.
1. Cruise ship formal dining - several courses prepared with care, tasty, and served elegantly.

If someone suggested, "But what about ...," I would probably waffle and get very wishy washy. For example when I started this list, I was going to enter Virg's in Erda and Leatherby's Family Creaamery in Tooele in the top five, and it didn't happen, but that might still be where I would put them tomorrow.
