Visitors

Today we had visitors. Carol Russell and her friend, Keith Blonquist, drove down from Logan. They picked up Hannah Russell at TRAX in Salt Lake City and came out and visited for a few hours. I took some pictures. Unfortunately the light behind the pictures was so powerful that the pictures turned out to be mostly silhouettes. They are still very nice pictures. We went to Jim's Family Restaurant for lunch. Carol, Keith, Hannah, and Clarine played Scrabble with "liberated" rules. I observed since I am a purist about this rules business. We had a marvelous time together. They are some more of our grand children that treat us so very nice. I am glad that they thought of us and came out to see us. Hannah and Carol were home in Victor, New York at Christmas time. gwh

Global Warming

I hesitate to name this little note "Global Warming," because for some reason or another the term tends to polarize people's attitudes - especially politically. Never-the-less so far this winter we have not produced any data around here that would add any credence the "global warming" larder - nor did we last year. The year before that would have made a person wonder a little bit. There is no need for me to express my opinion because most of you already know my feelings. In my previous blog I sent pictures of the beautiful frost hanging from the trees and bushes. It has been that way ever since the beginning of November, 2009, off and on, with the temperatures often crowding down toward zero F. At the beginning of December, 2009, a neighbor told me the ice was eight inches thick. The neighbor got out his ATV and plowed off a skating rink. To make it smoother and perhaps firmer, he sprayed it with a hose. It hasn't been sprayed recently, but in the one picture included , a person can pick out the scraped rinks quite easily. I think the amount of use has dropped off since the novelty is long since gone, and most all of us are beginning to look forward to spring.
Changing the subject just a bit, yesterday was our last day serving in the Salt Lake Temple for a couple of weeks. The temple is closed for a winter break. It will be interesting to see what they have decided to modify or change in the decor. Some breaks is is hardly noticeable. Other times the changes are almost pronounced. To me they have always been for the better - either aesthetically or for efficiency. Both Clarine and I continue to feel well and hope for good health to continue.
Tomorrow evening we are going to attend the opera, Carmen. It will be an ongoing happening that has been going on for many years. I suppose that it goes back to when Carol was alive as we used to have seasons tickets then as well. When I was single, I think both Jalayne and Carol (granddaughters) attended an opera with me. If others have attended with me, forgive my not remembering. There is getting to be a bit of murkiness in my rememberer.
I felt I needed to put something in this blog space as it has been a while since I put anything there, and I know I have wondered about some others who started blogging and seemed abandon the practice - I know because I visit the sites regularly and nothing changes. Thank you to those who do blog quite regularly. I don't comment all of the time, but I do read them. gwh
